Freedom to Never Quit
I was recently told that I should “Quit while I’m ahead” and it reminded me of yet another freedom that I have. Success does not come to those who quit while they are ahead OR behind… success comes to those who press forward no matter what.
In 1 Corinthians 9:24 it says “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” This Bible verse certainly tells us how we should live our lives, regardless of the obstacles that may come. We are running for excellence, running towards the Kingdom of God, and most of all, running to WIN!! You cannot win if you stop, quit, give up and let go.
As you go through the rest of your day, remember also the Bible verse found in Philippians 3:14, “With my eyes fixed on the goal I push on to secure the prize of God’s heavenward call in Christ Jesus.“
Remember that you are in a race and that no matter what you have set your heart on to glorify God and utilize the talents He has given you, that you have the freedom, nay- the Obligation- to Never Quit!
Freedom to Park
You’re driving through a parking lot, looking for a space to park. you were right on time for your meeting, yet there were no spaces to be found in the 20 car lot that supported your jobs five-story, 500+ occupied building. You see a space in the distance and quickly make your way there, thinking you’ve found a sport JUST in time. Only, as you pull up, you realize it’s not a spot. Or, it should be, but the person next to it decided that the lines were just a suggestion and was occupying most of the potential space. Frustrated and now sure of your lateness, you move on to find someplace to park down the street.
Does this scenario sound familiar to you? This is perhaps one of the most frustrating things I encounter, and my “disturbed mentality” is focused on two key things:
#1- Why are there always so few parking spaces? Despite the fact that they’re so small only a stroller could fit, your BUILT this lot with the building and its capacity in mind. REALLY??? A five-story building and these few spots? You would have been better offer building a parking garage than wasting space with the joke of a lot you have. this is especially prevalent in “downtown” areas, where the population and workforce is dense. Get it together people.
#2- This is perhaps even more important than the first, because no matter how big a lot is, this GENIUS will always be there. The spots are lined for a reason. It’s not a guide, a suggestion or recommendation on how to park. It’s to let you know, you need to stay within your lines and I’ll stay in mine. It is not okay, especially in a crowded lot, to occupy multiple spaces. Whether on purpose or accidental, you need to learn how to stay in the lines. Would a coloring book help you remember these basic fundamentals of life?
At the end of the day we likely have all been guilty of Freedom Treason #2, but here is a gentle reminder for you to heed: the world does NOT revolve around you, and neither does the parking lot. Stay in your lines, and don’t deny me my Freedom to Park!!
Freedom to be Acronym Free
IMHO, acronyms have gotten way out of hand. Not only is it in my IMs, but it’s at my job, in my books and most recently even in my dreams. As I drifted off to sleep this morning I thought, “WTH? 2moro 404 ab WITW I hv 2do”. Sound confusing? Well, get used to it because SSEWBA!!
Seriously though, who comes up with this stuff and WHY? It’s not just “kids today” either, we have PhD educated certified geniuses working at great companies like Intel & Nike who use acronyms EVERYDAY as a way of life. A typical work email might go something like, “I have 12 ARs to complete by EOD, a trip to the FAB to EOL the system and then more KTBR work that needs doing for the PMO SP before I get to WFH tomorrow.”
I say we put a stop to the madness and tell all acronym users to GTHOHWTHM!!! I have a freedom to be acronym free and not require a dictionary to decipher your cryptic work speech. Even if I bothered to learn it, you’d just change it again or I’d talk to someone else who had a completely different and offensive meaning for it! I mean, WTF (Win the Future!) and let’s LOL (Live Our Lives) to be acronym free!!
Having trouble deciphering this message? Good, that means you have not been assimilated and can pass “Go!” for $200. You’ll still need to get out your Net Lingo dictionary and start figuring it out!
Freedom to Meat!
No, that was not a typo. I believe that, if you so choose to enjoy it, that you have the right to eat real meat. Taco Bell is currently being sued for not having real meat in their meals and this is not the first company to stand accused. KFC underwent years of suspicion after changing their name, and McDonald’s stood accused of a happy meal that never rots!
Unfortunately, as time goes on we find simple meats like Chicken, Beef and Turkey pumped with hormones and now grown in test labs. I have a hard time eating real meat and I’m all for removing the ICK! factor of tiny faces, animal diseases and internal organs, but I just skipped to the meatless diet rather than de-meating the meat.
The point is, can’t we get back to the good old days when the food you ate was real, unprocessed food? We wonder why America has an obesity problem, and this is one of them- this unhealthy obsession with cheap meat that is as close to not being meat as meat can be.
If you want to sell or eat meat, then just get the real deal- otherwise leave it alone PLEASE!! A vegetarian diet is not bad at all.
